WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 55 ISSUE 11 MARCH 20, 2018 P63
I
n 2017, Eli Tomac won nine main events
and came up just five points short of
the championship, exactly as Damon
Bradshaw did 25 years earlier. It's Tomac's
Bradshaw-esque raw speed, and incon-
sistency, that makes him such an enigma.
He had the opening round this year under
control until a crash, which put him out
of the main event as well as the following
one in Houston. Then he won two before
he had two more terrible mains, then won
two more. Then, in Atlanta, he finished
third, but was easily the fastest guy on the
track a week ago in Daytona on his way to
second place after an opening-lap fall. In
St. Louis, Tomac's hot hand from Daytona
continued, except this time he got a good
start as well, and that made all the differ-
ence on his way to leading every lap and
winning by over 20 seconds.
