CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 55 ISSUE 9 MARCH 6, 2018 P55 NEW DIGS This was the first-ever supercross race held at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The previous sta- dium, the Georgia Dome, is still next door but is just a pile of rubble. Before the Georgia Dome, Fulton County Sta- dium used to hold supercross races. MILLSAPS' MOMENT Davi Millsaps was honored in Atlanta during the evening program opening ceremonies. Millsaps announced his retirement from racing last month but the Atlanta fans got to see their home- grown hero take one last lap around the track, this time, with his young son as a passenger. DUE TIME Supercross promoter Feld Motors- ports made a few adjustments to the Triple Crown format for the Atlanta race. They added two minutes to each of the first two main events, increasing the first 250SX main event from six to eight minutes, and the first 450SX main from eight to 10 minutes. TIP TOE In his second race on a 450 for the Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki team, Justin Hill came in with high expecta- tions, but ended up being caught out in the first main event when he hit a kicker and went over the bars big-time, break- ing his toe. He attempted to race the second main, but dropped out after 11 laps. Hill will now rest up for the rest of the 250SX West Championship, which resumes April 7 in Seattle, Washington. FERRANDIS CRASHES OUT The Atlanta Supercross was a huge disappointment for Monster Energy/ Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha's Briefly... Blake Baggett (4) was always near the front until a crash in race three took him out. Jason Anderson (21) claimed the overall win.
