REDONDI WINS IT ON LAST LAP
T

everything right at the Prairie
Dogs Motorcycle Club's 26th
Annual Prairie Dogs Grand Prix,
round three of the AMA District
37/FMF Big 6 Grand Prix Series
and its AMA Big 6 West Coast
Grand Prix (WCGP) Series fea-
ture event.
The Johnny Campbell Rac-
ing (JCR) Honda star led almost
from the start of the $5000,
90-minute race at a very wet
Glen Helen Raceway Park on his
Lucas Oil/Maxxis/Fly Racing-
sponsored CRF450RX and at
the white flag appeared to be on
his way to repeating his round-
one triumph.
Lapped traffic, however, sty-
mied him on several occasions
and led to him sliding out on the
rain-slicked, muddy asphalt of
the Glen Helen Pavilion on the
final lap, breaking his electric-
start button, which forced him to
bump start his bike.
That opened the door for
former FIM Junior Enduro World
Champion Giacomo Redondi
of Italy to sneak past on the
Red Bull/Maxxis/Alpinestars
KTM 450 SX-F he'd purchased
recently. Despite some back-
and-forth with FMF/Maxxis/RPM
Racing KTM's Eric Yorba on the
final lap, Redondi made one final
pass stick and came into the fin-
ish chute just one second ahead
of Yorba, with the frustrated
Stewart another second behind
for third.
"Those guys were really fast,"
Redondi said. "I saw that I was
faster in some places and I
wanted to study [their lines]. With
two laps to go, I really started to
push it and I caught up to Trevor.
On the asphalt, it was so slip-
pery the last lap because it was
raining and I think he made a

Giacomo Redondi followed
Trevor Stewart and Eric
Yorba closely for most of the
race, passing for the lead
on the last lap to capture his
first Big 6 victory.
