IN THE WIND P40 450 XC-F stalled right after get- ting over the starting gate. "I don't think I warmed my bike up good enough because we waited forever for somebody to move their truck off the track so we sat at the gate forever, like maybe 10 minutes plus," he said. "My bike just sat there and I didn't have it running or anything, then they told us two minutes [until the start], but they didn't give us two minutes—they gave us like 45 seconds to a minute— and I wasn't really conscious of warming my bike up. I feel like as soon as the gate dropped and I got on the gas, cold air flooded [the engine] and it kind of flamed out and I was dead last." But not for long. "Today I rode really well; just a bad start and I had to work my way up, and I only had two little crashes. I was catching those guys all day so I was happy about that." 3 Bros./STI Husqvarna's Zach Bell made a few mistakes that held him back to fifth, the de- fending series champ and round- two winner unofficially slipping to fourth in points at 60. Monster Energy/Lava Propane Honda's Justin Jones claimed sixth followed by Chaparral Motorsports/Precision Concepts Kawasaki's Blayne Thompson, Focus Apparel Yamaha-mounted Justin Wallis, Perry Concepts Honda rider Travis Damon and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Dalton Shirey who drops from first to third in points at 61 (unof- ficially) with his 10th-place finish. Suzuki's Gary Sutherlin, the 2017 WORCS and AMA Hare & Hound National Champion, was forced off the track by a lapper and crashed. He hit his head in the fall, suffered a "sprained neck," bruised ribs and other injuries. He did not finish the race but said that he expects to be fit enough to compete in the upcoming WORCS race at Lake Havasu. Chaparral Motorsports/Preci- sion Concepts Kawasaki's Clay Hengeveld came from behind to win the WCGP Pro II division for the second time this season fol- lowed by Suzuki-mounted Tallon La Fountaine and current class champion Beau Baron on his CST Honda. In the WCGP Women Pro class, Brandy Richards and her Bell Helmets KTM 250 XC-F notched her second consecu- tive victory, this one over Big 6 newcomer Tarah Gieger on her Red Bull Honda and FMF KTM's Kacy Coy, who remains the class points leader at 71, unofficially, to Richards' 60.
