Road Trippin' CYCLE NEWS CRUISER BUYERS GUIDE August 3-12 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally GPS COORDINATES: 44.40971 -103.50908 WWW.STURGISMOTORCYCLERALLY.COM Sturgis is the most famous cruiser event on th planet. Born in the Black Hills of South Dakota in the late 1930s, its rolling hills and roads make for terrific riding in what was once the Wild West. Vendor areas are spread out between the town and other surrounding communities. It's a rider's rally that pulls in people from all over the world. Bike shows and racing abound during the week. Hill- climbs, drags, flat track, and vintage competitions are all here. If that isn't enough, the historic gold town of Deadwood is a stone's throw from town. The city itself is upping its game as far as pulling in at- tendees, too. Last year they added a beard competition and the first Sturgis Street Food Throwdown which was hosted by Dr BBQ, Kita Roberts, and yours truly. For 2018, they're also adding a Burger Battle event which is a qualifier for the World Food Championships. For Sturgis: The 78th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will be the inaugural year for a new event, the Sturgis Burger Battle. The event will take place Tuesday, August 7 through Friday, August 10th at the Harley-Davidson Rally Point Stage on Main Street in Sturgis. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded and the grand champion will walk away with a Golden Ticket which includes a $1,000 travel stipend and entry into the World Food Championships Burger division where they would have a chance at a $100,000 grand prize. The rally will also host its Legendary Sturgis 5k race on Sunday, August 5, 2018. The 5k run/walk's proceeds will go to the Meade County Senior Citizen Center, located downtown Sturgis. Check in at 7:00 AM on Sunday, August 5th at Sturgis Brown High School and enjoy a 5k fun-run along the Sturgis Bike Path. Sturgis is also bringing back the Mayor's Pub Crawl event taking place on Tuesday, August 7, Tattoo Contest taking place on Tuesday, August 7, and the Beard & Mustache Contest tak- ing place on Wednesday, August 8, all at the Harley-Davidson Rally Point Stage on Main Street in Sturgis. Each year, the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ takes time to honor the US military by designating a day celebrate their sacrifice. Tuesday, August 7 has been appointed Military Ap- preciation Day. The Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ invites all at- tendees to thank those among us who dedicated themselves to serve and protect citizens of this great nation. Activities are
