P122 50 Years Ago March 8, 1968 Scrambles racing from Perris Raceway was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. Fred Edwards was pictured on his Yamaha 250 while winning the 250cc Expert class… The Tacoma Ducks Motorcycle Club hosted a wet and muddy motocross event and we were on hand to witness the fun… We also covered the Cal Poly Penguins' Hi Mountain Enduro near San Luis Obispo. Again, mud was the word of the day. But, in the California desert, dust was blowing at the Four Aces M.C. 18th Annual Moose Run. 40 Years Ago March 8, 1978 We had a little bit of everything— motocross, desert racing, trials and personalities on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago. We covered the final round of the Florida Winter-AMA MX Series from St. Petersburg; Mark Barnett, John Calathes and Don Kudalski came away with the titles… Roger DeCoster talked about his crash that nearly took his life. "It was a stupid crash," he said. "I hit a tree and I could feel something explode inside me." We interviewed Florida MX promoter Bill West and chatted about his differences with the AMA. 20 Years Ago March 4, 1998 A happy Jeremy McGrath was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 20 years ago for winning the Atlanta Supercross; Ricky Carmichael also got cover time for winning the 125cc class… We compared our favorite 250cc motocrosser—the Kawasaki KX250 two-stroke—to the new Yamaha YZ400F four-stroke… We featured an interview with Castrol Honda's Aaron Slight, as he and his teammate Colin Edwards prepare for the upcoming World Superbike Championship… MXer Jim Gibson and Hall of Famer Jim Davis were highlighted in our Time Remembered stories.
