ROAD RACE
FIM SUPERBIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 1 / FEBRUARY 23-25, 2018
PHILLIP ISLAND CIRCUIT / PHILLIP ISLAND, AUSTRALIA
P74
Randy Krummenacher (Bar-
dahl Evan Bros Yamaha), was
one of those who was happy to
take on 18-laps with no worries
about tire life or problems, as he
felt he had the suspension setup
to do it.
Over only nine laps he could
not get close enough to Mahias
to score a win, but second first
time back in the class after a
GRT Yamaha teammate Fed-
erico Caricasulo.
Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki
Puccetti Racing) will need medi-
cal attention to his abraded leg
and backside when he gets
home to Turkey but despite such
a big crash in superpole qualify-
ing on Saturday he lined up on
Sunday ready to race and was
third after one lap.
He finished it a lot happier, as
he rode to an instant lead in the
first attempted start, in a race
that was called before it had
properly started.
A red flag after two riders
collided saw the two-part flag-
to-flag idea dropped in favor of a
single go over nine laps.
Mahias was away on his own
in the real race from his own
Xavi Fores (12), Rea
(1) and Melandri
(33) mixed it up
during a thrilling
race two.
