two when fighting for the race
lead. Lining Alfredo Gomez
(Husqvarna) up for a pass on a
high-speed double, the rear end
of his KTM got kicked by the log,
lawn-darting him into the track-
side grandstand. Luckily, Bla-
zusiak escaped unscathed and
incredibly bounced back to win
the final heat.
"That was a scary, scary night
for me," admitted Blazusiak. "My
crash in the second race was,
thankfully, something that doesn't
happen that often. But it was
kind of typical of what happened
tonight. When I crashed in the
second race I was focused on
getting into the lead. I went a little
offline on one of the jumps and
hit a small hole on the back side
of the log that ran across the top
fore finishing second in heat two.
Crashing with Webb and Walker
in the final heat of the night saw
him leave Malaga fifth overall.
"I got the holeshot in the
first race but then stalled it and
dropped a few spots," Haaker
said. "Then I went over the bars
in the matrix, and managed to
finish sixth. It wasn't the start I'd
hoped for. I had a great battle with
a bunch of riders in the second
final, with Taddy, Cody, Jonny
and those guys. I dropped back
to fourth when I got tangled with
a lapper in the rock garden, but
managed to get back to second."
Sixth on the night was Taddy
Blazusiak, despite a win in heat
three. The factory KTM rider's
night was marred by a spec-
tacularly scary crash in heat
Haaker (1) rode well on the night but small mistakes and being in
the wrong place at the wrong time cost him plenty.
of the face of the jump. It kicked
me over the bars and I was so,
so close to a huge get-off. I went
off the track and crashed into
the stands. It happened so fast. I
was lucky [I didn't get hurt].
"I didn't think that I was going
to be able to complete the third
final, but when I saw all the other
guys crash off the start I knew I
had to take the opportunity to get
as many points as possible. It's
kind of amazing that I managed
to win the third final. I was all out
of energy, but a win was a great
way to end the night." CN
