CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 55 ISSUE 6 FEBRUARY 13, 2018 P47 D uring a season where it seems all of the other championship contend- ers are committing costly errors, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Jason Anderson has been a rock. In the five races run prior to the San Diego Supercross, Anderson qualified for the main event either first or second a total of four times, and in those races he managed a score of 2-1-3-4-1, only missing the podium one time. In San Diego, Anderson qualified first for the main event yet again, then went out and chased down Honda HRC's Cole Seely to take his third main-event win of the season. More significant for the championship, though, was the DNF of his closest points rival, Honda HRC's Ken Roczen, after an ugly crash with Monster Energy/Knich Yamaha's Cooper Webb that saw Roczen's hand get sucked into Webb's spinning rear wheel. And Anderson's next-closest points rival, Webb's teammate Justin Barcia, matched his worst finish of the young sea- son so far with an eighth place. Now only six races in, Anderson sports a hefty 28-point lead with 11 rounds still left to go. And in the 250SX West class, AutoTrader/JGR Suzuki's Justin Hill broke through to take his first win of the series and keep himself in (albeit distant) championship contention as the 250SX West goes on hiatus for a few weeks, and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy gutted out a perfor- mance that will be remembered if he ends up taking the 250SX West title.
