tions and went down, costing
himself a great chance at the
win. For the Honda HRC team,
though, Seely's crash wasn't
all bad as his teammate Ken
Roczen suddenly found himself
leading the way.
Just as Seely hit the deck,
so did Red Bull KTM's Marvin
Musquin, as he was surprised
by Anderson—Musquin's training
partner—who dove to the inside
450SX
In order to win the Oakland
Supercross, it wasn't enough
to beat all the other racers on
the track, the winner would also
have to beat the track itself. The
dirt was soft, and the track broke
down quickly, rutting up in the
rhythm sections and transitions,
and putting a premium on riding
clean and smooth.
Heat-race winner Cole Seely
got the holeshot and looked
smooth out front for the first 11
of a corner for the pass and
clipped Musquin's front wheel,
causing Musquin to go down.
Anderson's charge carried
him to the rear wheel of new
the race leader, Roczen, with a
few laps to go, and the final two
laps saw the pair trade the lead
multiple times before Anderson
was able to secure the victory
with just a few turns left in the
race, taking the win by less than
a second over Roczen.
