SUPERCROSS M O N S T E R E N E R G Y A M A S U P E R C R O S S , A N F I M W O R L D C H A M P I O N S H I P ROUND 3 / JANUARY 20, 2018 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA P58 250SX WEST Savatgy came into Anaheim II trail- ing points leader Plessinger by seven points, and Plessinger—with the red plate on his Monster Energy Yamalube Star Racing YZ250F—was riding a hot streak after going 2-1 in the first two rac- es of the series. With three main events on a track that was difficult to pass on, starts were destined to determine much of the outcome, and Savatgy had his starts nailed. Savatgy led every lap of the opening main event over Geico Honda's Chris- tian Craig, while Plessinger's teammate Mitchell Oldenburg made up the most ground in the race, moving from outside the top five to third place, just in front of Savatgy's teammate Adam Cianciarulo, round-one winner Shane McElrath (TLD Red Bull KTM) and Plessinger, who started well outside the top 10. McElrath led every lap of the sec- ond main event, while Savatgy started third and finished second just in front of Craig, Plessinger, Cianciarulo and Oldenburg. And in the final main event, Craig's teammate Chase Sexton led the first 12 laps of the 15-lap race before Savatgy wore him down and took over the lead. Savatgy then had to hold off the advances of teammate Cianciarulo in second at the finish, while Sexton ended up third in front of McElrath, Craig, Oldenburg and Plessinger, who suffered his worst start of the night in the final race. The 1-2-1 score by Savatgy was easily the best performance of the night, and it launched him into a tie for the points lead with McElrath, while Plessinger's sixth-place overall dropped him to third in points, two behind the points lead- ers. CN Joey Savatgy (17) was the only multi- winner on the night. He went 1-2-1 in the 250SX East class for the overall win.
