S
ubzero temperature did not
stop 230 determined off-
road racers from participating in
the Southern Maryland Dirt Rid-
ers (AMA D-7) 2018 Hangover
Hare Scrambles, the opening
round of the SRT/AMA East
Hare Scrambles Championship,
in Charlotte Hall, Maryland,
January 6, 2018. And things
heated up quickly when the
experts took to the trail for their
five-lap main event.
KTM-mounted Zack Nolan
jumped into the early lead that
he would never let go of—but
that wasn't to say that a number
of riders did try to wrestle away
his lead. Nick Marti (KTM) and
Kyle McDonal (Beta) both made
a run at him but with no suc-
cess. Then Shawn "Woodsy"
Jackson joined in on the fun,
as did Open A rider Tanner Way
(Beta).
The cold temps did get the
best of some of the riders who
pulled in early, wishing they had
full hand guards to keep their
hands "warm."
In the end, Nolan held on to
take the victory, followed by Mc-
Donal (30 seconds back) and
Open A winner Way.
In the morning C-class races,
the competitors had to endure
14-degree temperatures! Da-
koda Hardy (KTM) survived the
frigid weather and took the win
in the Schoolboy 1 class. Open-
class riders Jocob Stirn was
second and Rigobarto Romero
third.

A class with third overall.
