On the outside, Shane McElrath's performance at
Anaheim I this year looked much like it did in 2017.
Two years in a row now, McElrath led every lap of
the opening round, with Yamaha's Aaron Pless-
inger finishing second. But on the inside, this
win was much different for McElrath, who in 2017
eventually relinquished the title to Justin Hill.
The TLD/Red Bull KTM racer was a bundle of
nerves during the race in 2017, even as he was
winning races and leading the championship. It
wasn't a position he'd ever been in before, and
frankly he didn't really know how to handle it.
Now, it seems he does.
