OFF ROAD 9TH OZARK 100 MILER HARD ENDURO NOVEMBER 26, 2017 HARDWOOD HILLS RANCH / MANSFIELD, MISSOURI P74 STORY AND PHOTOS BY SHAN MOORE B eta USA's Jordan Ashburn claimed the top spot at this year's Marion Power- sports Ninth Annual Ozark 100 Miler extreme off-road race in Mansfield, Missouri, sweeping all three motos to claim the victory and the $2500 first prize ahead of Sherco Off-Road's Nick Fahringer, who went 2-2-2 to finish second and pocket $1500. Third place and $1000 went to AirGroup Racing/Enduro Engineering Husqvarna's Drew Higgins. In all, the event paid out a whopping $7500 thanks to the many sponsors that support the event. ASHBURN LIGHTS IT UP Jordan Ashburn out-duels Fahringer in Missouri With extreme off-road racing gaining traction here in the U.S., the Ozark 100 Miler is grow- ing with each year and it has become one of the more unique of the U.S. hard enduro races. The race consists of three motos: a 50-mile two-lap race in the morning, a one-lap 25-mile race in the afternoon, and a 25-mile (three laps of just over eight miles) final race that starts at dusk. In keeping with the traditional hard enduro format, the first two motos are "elimina- tion" races, which serve to trim the field down to 25 riders for the night race. Riders mount headlights and helmet lights for the finale to be able to see on the moonlit trail. Two of the hard- er sections, or "elements" are lit by droplights strung through the trees along the boundaries Jordan Ashburn topped all three motos at the Ozark 100 Miler Hard Enduro in Missouri.
