50 Years Ago November 30, 1967
Dave Bickers was pictured from Castaic, California, on the cover of Cycle
News 50 years ago. It was to accompany our report on the American European
Champions MX and many of the top motocrossers from around the world were
there, such as Bickers, Gary Bailey, Joel Robert, Torsten Hallman, Preston
Petty and Eddie Mulder. A young Keith Mashburn won the 100cc Amateur
class. Hallman (250cc) and Bickers (500cc) were the big International-class
winners…. We covered the MDN Trade Show at
the new Anaheim Convention Center.
40 Years Ago November 23, 1977
Photos from the Baja 1000 and the Coca-Cola Motocross finals from Anaheim
Stadium were featured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago. We caught
Randy Hollenbeck getting a little sideways south of the border, while we
showed you Marty Smith leading Danny "Magoo" Chandler, Tony DiSte-
fano and Graham Noyce at Anaheim. Brent Wallingsford and Scot Harden
teamed up to win the 1000, while Bob Hannah put it to everyone at Anaheim…
We featured a test on the Harley-Davidson 360 MX prototype.

Bruce Ogilvie was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago when he
and Dan Ashcraft teamed up to win the Baja 1000. We also showed you the
Yamaha FZR400 on the cover, as well of the rest of the new 1988 line of Ya-
maha motorcycles inside the issue… We covered the Buckhorn National Enduro
from Oak Run, California, where Dave Bertram, on his Husky Auto, edged out
fellow Husky rider Randy Hawkins for the overall
win… Sammy Bosnic won the High Point GNCC
at Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania.

race in Barcelona… We covered the latest round of the AMA National Hare &
Hound Championship in Wendover, Utah. Dave Hamel came away with the
win… We showed you the hottest bikes from the Tokyo Motor Show.
