HARLEY-DAVIDSON SPORT GLIDE
FIRST LOOK
P40
T
he new Harley-Davidson
Sport Glide his Harley's
way of enjoying the best of
both worlds–touring and sport
performance. Well, at least a
little bit of both.
Based on the new Softail
platform, the Sport Glide
features the Milwaukee-Eight
107 (1746cc) engine that gives
you a lot of torque and low-
end performance for vigorous
acceleration coming out of the
turns; just roll on the throttle,
shift right away, and start
thinking about the next turn.
Repeat. Peak torque arrives
early at just 2750 rpm. (108 lb-ft
at 2750 rpm to be exact.)
A semi-rigid chassis should
provide a stiff ride for that
"sporty" feel, aided by all-new
43mm inverted forks with
a single-cartridge damping
system. The single-shock rear
suspension has an external
preload adjustment. That pretty
much seems to take care of the
sport side of things, though we
do use the term "sport" loosely.
For weekend touring, the
Sport Glide features a five-gallon
fuel tank, and a quick-detach
mini fairing to direct windblast
away from the rider's chest.
Lockable, weather-resistant hard
saddlebags are standard, but
additional capacity accessories
are available. CN
