VOL. 54 ISSUE 43 OCTOBER 31, 2017 P55
Some of the highlights
include an available third-gener-
ation DCT transmission, double
wishbone front suspension
(which Honda claims is com-
pletely different from BMW's
Telelever front suspension
system), new four-valve Uni-
cam six-cylinder engine, elec-
tronically adjustable windshield,
upgraded brakes, throttle-by-
wire, multiple engine modes,
Apple CarPlay compatibility,
and a 7-inch full-color Thin Film
Transistor (TFT) display. Honda
claims the GL weighs between
85-90 pounds less than the
previous model, and gets the
same fuel range despite having
a 1.1-gallon less fuel capacity.
(Storage capacity is down just
a bit.)
The engine has been signifi-
cantly updated and is claimed to
have more power while capacity
and configuration remain the
same. It has some rider aids, in-
cluding traction control and ABS
(standard), and Honda claims
that the latest generation DCT
(Dual Clutch Transmission) is
even smoother than the current
version. The 'Wings are also
offered with six-speed manual
transmissions.
The new wishbone front
suspension system allows for
more weight to be distributed to
the front end for better overall
balance, reduced flexing, and
improved steering control.
Since the front wheel moves
vertically now, this allowed engi-
neers to place the engine a few
millimeters farther forward. The
new 'Wing has both forward and
reverse Walking Mode.
The new Gold Wing will be
available in five different mod-
els: Gold Wing Tour ($26,700),
Gold Wing Tour DCT ($27,700),
Gold Wing Tour Airbag
DCT ($31,500), Gold Wing
($23,500) and Gold Wing DCT
($24,700). We expect availabil-
ity early next year. CN

double wishbone
front suspension
system, which
Honda claims
provides better
overall balance and
improved steering.
