SUTHERLIN CLINCHES HARE & HOUND TITLE
P
urvines DA8 Racing Yama-
ha's Gary Sutherlin wrapped
up the Kenda/SRT AMA Hare &
Hound National Championship
Series one round early, riding
to a convincing victory at round
eight of the nine-race series,
the 50th Annual Johnson Valley
Championship hosted by the
100s Motorcycle Club, October
22.
Leading almost from the start,
the recently crowned WORCS
champ added the desert title to
his résumé with a masterful ride
over runner-up Taylor Robert—
the FMF KTM Factory Off-road
Racing Team ace's win streak
stopped at three—and third-place
Nick Burson. With Axel Pearson
finishing fourth, that made three
of the top-four finishers Purvines
DA8 Racing riders. Johnny
Campbell Racing (JCR) Honda's
Ricky Brabec, the defending se-
ries champ, suffered a poor start
and later DNFed with a reported
bike issue.
"Just trying to go out and get
points plays head games on
you," Sutherlin pointed out. "I
went out and just was like, 'You
know what? I'm going to win it
and get it off my back and maybe
even race the last EnduroCross
or doing something [else] fun.
