We were gearing up for the El Tour Grande Fiesta Poker Run in Ensenada
and we ran a photo on the cover of The Ace Of Clubs M.C. drill team that was
preparing to participate in the Grand Parade… Our feature race story was the
25th annual Turkey Run, a 90-mile desert race held in the Red Rock Canyon
area of Southern California. Gary Conrad took the win… We showed you the
latest motorcycles from Ducati, including the 1968 100cc Mountaineer and
the 350cc Sebring.

Our Honda project bike was featured on the cover 40 years ago. We spiced
up the MR 175 enduro… We covered round four of the Trans-AMA MX Series,
which was held on a very muddy RedBud track in Michigan. Rain, snow and hail
couldn't even stop the "Hurricane," Bob Hannah, from winning both motos…
We showed you the latest '78 models from Suzuki, like "The Fastest" GS1000
with a $2749 MSRP. Suzuki also joined the four-stroke off-road market with the
SP and DR370… Mike Bast won the U.S. Speedway Championship.

was pictured on the cover… Scott Parker capped off the GNC series with his
eighth win of the year at the Del Mar Mile… John Kocinski and Carl Fogarty
traded wins at the World Superbike final in Indonesia… We tested the 1998
Ducati ST2 sport tourer… Jeff Emig was the top dog at the Kawasaki Race
of Champions at Englishtown.

We were pretty excited that the motorcycle industry scored a big win when
Senator John C. Danforth dropped his controversial bill, The Motorcycle
Safety Act of 1987, that could have led to a ban on Japanese "superbikes"…
Kawasaki introduced its new line of 1988 motorcycles and most of the buzz
surrounded the Ninja 1000… Terry Vance set records at the NHRA Drag Race
in Dallas; he turned in a 7.990 run and a 165.07
mph run, but didn't make it to the final, which was
won by George Bryce.
