Christophe Charlier was a member of the
winning French team, and he was also a
member of this year winning French ISDE team.
perhaps the greatest off-road motorcyclist in
history.
Through a combination of luck, oppor-
tunity and performance, Charlier accom-
plished something nobody has ever ac-
complished: He became the first to win the
World Trophy Team gold at the International
Six Days Enduro and the Chamberlin Cup
at the Motocross of Nations. And he did
both in the same year!
Charlier stopped racing motocross at
the end of the 2016 season to pursue the
Enduro GP Championship instead, and
was chosen to represent Team France at
the ISDE. Against considerable odds, he
scored a gold medal, and his team won
the World Trophy. And then France again
picked him to represent the country at the
Motocross of Nations, as other 250cc rac-
ers such as Dylan Ferrandis (team member
in 2014) were unavailable.
And Charlier went out and put in a 14-6
(14th was the team's throwaway) on his
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna to cement
the win for France for the second time in a
single year.
"It's crazy, because I stopped motocross
since one year now, and to come for this
race and to win with the team, with all the
people, is so good!" Charlier said. "It's
crazy. To win the Six Days and this is so
good. It's just crazy."
Permanent Hero Status
Max Anstie's father, Mervyn, was a top
MXGP racer in his time, so Max has been
around motocross for literally his entire life.
After a brief stint in the U.S., it was obvious
the kind of talent that Max had, but teams
mostly reported that although they wanted
to have Max, they didn't want Mervyn to
