However, once France got the
monkey off its back in Latvia in 2014,
winning their second-ever MXoN with
riders Gautier Paulin, Dylan Ferrandis
and Steven Frossard, they've been
unstoppable.
At Matterley Basin, the French
didn't win any motos outright, nor did
they take any individual-class over-
all wins. What they did do was put
themselves in good positions on the
muddy, slick English soil, and stay
out of trouble.
France's throwaway moto in the
"best five out of six moto scores"
format was a 14th, put in by MX2 racer
Christophe Charlier in the opening
moto. The other five scores were 2-3-
3-6-6. No other team at the event had
five scores all within the top 10, much
less with a worse score of sixth place.
In fact, only three other teams even
had two scores of sixth or better.
Gautier Paulin, who has been on
all four French winning Motocross of
Nations teams since 2014, put in a
solid 3-6 in the MXGP class for Team
France.
"Winning the Nations is a crazy
feeling that never gets old," Paulin
said. "This is such a special event
with fans and spectators traveling
from all parts of the word to see
us race. I really want to thank my
teammates Christophe Charlier and
Romain Febvre. They did a great
job and the overall win belongs to
all three of us. The atmosphere this
year has been amazing. As for me, it
feels great to be able to get a fourth
consecutive win with the team. I did
my best to secure two good results in
the final motos and I made it happen.
I loved every moment of this year's
Motocross of Nations."
Great Britain's own
Max Anstie was the
star of the show after
winning two of the
three motos.
