T
hey say that champion-
ships are won on your worst
days and for Ox Motorsports
rider Zach Bell, the Viewfinders
Motorcycle Club's Viewfinders
Grand Prix—round six of the
AMA District 37/Maxxis Big 6
Grand Prix Series—was, well,
pretty bad.
When he lined up for the
$2000, 90-minute AMA D-37
West Coast Grand Prix (WCGP)
feature race, only a handful of
people knew how sick he was,
which was how he wanted it.
During the race, though, he
couldn't hide his condition any
more and vomited several times.
Amazingly, he still managed
to chalk up win number three
and stretch his points lead over
Johnny Campbell Racing (JCR)
Honda's Trevor Stewart, who
was second on the day, with
Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/Preci-
sion Concepts Kawasaki rider
Justin Seeds nabbing third.
But as bad as Bell's day went,
it was even worse for champion-
ship rivals Blayne Thompson
and Eric Yorba, the current
number-one plate holder. After
stints at the front, both ran into
separate problems, effectively
quashing their championship
aspirations for the year.
"Yorba and Blayne got by me
the first lap and I just kind of let
them go at it [to] see what they
were doing," Bell explained. Af-
ter stalling his Monster Energy/
Lava Propane/Answer Racing
CRF450RX, Bell began to cut
into round-four winner Yorba's
26-second lead—a task made
easier after the Maxxis/FMF/
RPM Racing Team KTM rider
ran out of gas due to a broken
hose. Yorba was credited with
ninth WCGP Pro.
"He ran out of gas and I feel
bad for him; that was his race,"
Bell commented.
