CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "All of us who have been able to watch him race all these years, he has added so much to our enjoyment of the sport." Lone Star Half-Mile [The Lone Star Half-Mile] must have been an eye opener for Team Indian. Mees bested by a 46-year-old Harley and Bryan Smith off the podium to a priva- teer version of his Indian. Life will be pretty hard for Polaris if more riders buy the customer version FTRs and duplicate Johnny Lewis' performance next year. James Edward Zeiser That would be great to see more privateer FTR Scouts on the tracks, but at 50 grand a pop, I don't see dealers lining up to get one. Fifty thousand dollars is out of reach for an average privateer and unjustifi- able in my opinion. When the alloy XR750 debuted in 1972 it was $2395 dealer cost and most Harely- Davidson dealers let privateers have them at their cost. Well, $2395 in 2017 dollars is still slightly over $14,000 and more in line with what the Indian should be selling for as a single bike with no spares. Mary Brey If you watched Jeffrey Carver at Springfield, you saw him charge into every corner harder than every other racer out there. He earned this win! Brian Martens It's good to see the old XR750 still has what it takes. Danny Thomas Empire Of Dirt: Chad Reed Thousands and thou- sands of miles from home, Reed and his wife have been com- peting going on two decades. He has fought Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Kevin Windham, Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto, along with Euro's best when he raced GPs. He has given his all to this sport. All of us who have been able to watch him race all these years, he has added so much to our enjoyment of the sport. That he built a race team, raised a family, nursed injuries and established a brand and fan base all the while is icing on the cake. We will never see another like him. I hope he goes an- other couple years, at least. That he offended team Yama- ha is too bad. It seemed like his teammate wasn't having such a good time with the scooter either. Perhaps someone who has raced pro for as long as he has, with his success, knows how a bike should be set up to his liking? Cheryll Green Wurst Well, if he wants to race so bad go buy a bike and race. Oh, he wants a big semi and lots of cash, so do a lot of other guys—young guys. His time has passed. It happens to every- body. Good luck snarky Chad. He's in the record books, a great rider, but all good things come to an end. Mike Thomas If he wins a main again, drinks are on me. The question is which bike will he whine about next season? Lazlo Toth Archives: 1987 Motocross des Nations That was an incredible race, I'm so glad I attended it! I was on pins and needles wondering if we were going to get beat at home that year. Bob Hannah was amazing to watch on the 125! Mark Ctune Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
