T
he final round of Mo-
toAmerica 2017 will go
down as the first time
America's premier road rac-
ing championship had a South
African on top of the Superbike
podium, as Mathew Scholtz took
an unexpected yet resoundingly
popular win in the rain in race
two.
It was also the first time a
Superstock 1000-spec machine
beat the Superbikes, in what will
be the final race for the class
ahead of new rules for 2018.
Roger Hayden took his third
Superbike win of the year in
race one; Garrett Gerloff sealed
the deal in Supersport for his
second national title; Jason
Aguilar took his first gold as a
national champion as the final
Superstock 600 champion and
Benjamin Smith took a nail-biting
victory in the last-ever KTM
RC Cup race to become 2017
champion.
It took six different starts to get two
winners for the final MotoAmerica round
of the season in Alabama, and there was
