IN THE WIND P46 BARCIA GOING PRIVATEER (FOR NOW) J ustin Barcia says he plans to compete in next month's Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas as a privateer. He an- nounced his intentions via Instagram. Barcia began his first two years as a pro on the factory Honda Team and the next three years at JGR, riding Yamahas and Suzukis, but he will contest the MEC race on a privateer Honda. "Details are still getting worked out." However, Barcia also said, "…I have an option or two that I will be looking into for 2018." CN WEIMER INJURED M otoConcepts Racing (MCR) rider Jake Weimer suffered multiple injuries following a crash that occurred Friday, September 15, while practicing at Milestone MX Park in California for the upcoming supercross season. Weimer's injuries consist of a collapsed lung and a bruised lung, a broken rib, a fractured elbow, a broken scapula along with a small bone break in his right hand. While initial recovery was uncertain and not favorable, doctors have indi- cated a recovery prognosis of 6-8 weeks, allowing Weimer the opportunity to return to riding in late 2017 with the potential of racing as early as Janu- ary, 2018. "Our group is saddened for Jake's situation as he was really gelling with the bike which was resulting in significant improvement in his speed," said MCR Team Manager Tony Alessi. "I'm re- lieved the injuries weren't more severe and I'm op- timistic we'll see Jake back on the bike soon. All of us at MCR are saddened by this turn of events and are committed to providing the necessary support to get Jake ready to compete in 2018." CN Justin Barcia says he plans to ride a privateer Honda at the Monster Energy Cup. Jake Weimer suffered numerous injuries in a crash while practicing in California. The MCR Team rider hopes to still make the opening round of the 2018 Supercross Series.
