ROAD RACE MOTOAMERICA AMA FIM NORTH AMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 9 / SEPTEMBER 8-10, 2017 NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK / MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY P62 CSVMoto's Cory Ventura. For Smith, the weekend was a disaster as the title leader crashed out of race one but managed to salvage a third in race two, hanging onto his championship lead but with it all the play for in Alabama this weekend. "At first Cory passed me with two laps to go, and I didn't know if I wanted to be in the back of him, or in the front of him in the last couple corners," Dumas said at the conclusion of race two. "I was in his draft and de- cided I'm going to pull a gap and try to win the race without being drafted. It turned [out] pretty well." Dumas took the race one win from Ventura with Sean Ungvar- sky (Savage Racing) third for his first MotoAmerica podium. Fourth went to Smith's team- mates Jackson Blackmon and Jake Leahey while in race two, it was the top three of Dumas, Ventura and Smith from Toby Khamsouk (Toby K 727) and Dylan Deutschlander (Aces High Racing). CN once again fourth overall. In the Superstock 600 class, local boy and former KTM RC Cup graduate Anthony Mazzi- otto III (YCRS/Mazziotto Racing Yamaha) took a popular win over McFadden and Ortt, as Gilbert took fourth in class and seventh overall, but crucially, ahead of Aguilar, to close the title race up to a winner-take-all scenario of just three points heading into this weekend's final round at Barber Motorsports Park. KTM RC CUP The New Jersey round saw the title race reset to zero for the top three as French Canadian Alex Dumas (JP43 Junior Team RC390) took his fourth win in a row and second straight double victory to close to within one point of title leader Benjamin Smith (Quarterley Racing/On Track Development Racing) and following his race-one victory on Saturday. "That was really nice to be able to know going into the race that I needed to be consis- tent and do my laps." On one of only two Hondas in the field, Benny Solis Jr. once again showed his talent by taking fourth on the Team H35 machine ahead of Superstock 600 victor, Michael Gilbert (Team MG55 Yamaha), fifth overall in a result that closed up the title race to just five points with previous title leader Jason Aguilar (RiderzLaw/Aguilar Rac- ing Yamaha), who could only manage eighth overall and fourth in class behind Gilbert, Braeden Ortt (Tuned Racing Yamaha) and Nick McFadden (M4 medAge Suzuki). For Sunday's race two it would again be Gerloff who would take the laurels with victory over Beach and Debise with Solis Jr (Left) In a season that has seen only sporadic appearances, Anthony Mazziotto III took the second Superstock 600 race victory at his home track. (Right) Alex Dumas (690) took his fourth win of the season in New Jersey to move to within one point of tied series leaders Cory Ventura (164) and Benjamin Smith.
