Gary Conrad was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago for
winning the California State Championship Hare & Hound, hosted by the
Shamrocks M.C. Evidently Conrad and his new 360cc Greeves got along just
fine… We had full coverage of the Ascot Eight-Mile National and Dan Haaby
took the big win. It was his first national win of his career and it made him the
only rider to ever win every major title offered at Ascot.

A random photo of Sue Fish was pictured on the cover aboard our Suzuki
RM125 test bike… Mike Kidd won the Middletown Half Mile in New York,
and the Scott brothers, Hank and Gary, joined him on the podium… Jack
Johnson won the Silver City Scrambler-hosted Pioche Grand Prix in Nevada…
We covered the Rock Run Enduro, where Dick Burleson clinched his fourth
national title… We talked about the latest controversy in motocross on how
the AMA was considering doing away with the current three championships
(125cc, 250cc and 500cc) for a one-champion-
ship system.

was also pictured on the cover for winning the Springfield Mile on the factory
Honda… Holland's Kees Van der Ven won the 500cc MXGP in Switzerland…
Randy Mamola and Eddie Lawson went 1-2 at the San Marino Road Race
