OFF ROAD 92ND FIM INTERNATIONAL SIX DAYS ENDURO AUGUST 22-SEPTEMBER 2, 2017 BRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE, FRANCE P70 My Own Race: 10 RYAN SIPES 16TH WT/2ND E1 "If I could take back the crashes, I would've ended up a whole lot better!" said Ryan Sipes. "That was the tough part, just trying to be con- sistent and try to go as fast as we have to go, on the edge—and that's what I like about this kind of racing: You have to be on the edge. It's scary, but it's fun. You have to be so on the edge here [even compared to motocross]. To find that balance of on-the-edge-but-don't-crash is tough, and I was too far a couple times and I would crash. And I need a little more speed. Josep [Garcia] and those guys were going really fast this week so I'll work a little harder for next year because I want to win, I want to be in the hunt to win." 12 THAD DUVALL DNF "I had some pretty high expectations; I might've been a little too confident—I don't know," said Thad Duvall. "I went into the first test and felt good the whole time. I felt like I was having a really strong test; I was catching a pretty fast guy in front of me so I knew I was riding well. I don't know. I was coming down a really fast straightaway, just went to brake and the next thing you know I was on my head. It happened so fast. It was two turns from the finish so I just kind of popped up and when I went into the next turn and went to pull in the clutch, I knew something wasn't right [in my wrist]. I went into the finish and I stopped and sat there and collected my thoughts and was like, 'What's going on?' That's when I noticed the wrist was really bad." I tried to ride it out, but the more I rode, the worse it got. I'm more disappointed in letting the team down and letting a lot of people down that support it." 258 BRANDY RICHARDS 2ND WWT/3RD EW Like all three American women, Brandy Richards had never before had to change tires on the clock at the end of a day, though she wasn't the only one who had a few fumbles. Predictably, it got better; she said, "I stayed more calm and everything just kind of came to- gether perfect. Yesterday, I was struggling with the bead, and today I figured it out a little bit better. After I got that, everything else was easy." Of the riding, she said, "I've never really raced [through the] trees [before] so that's a little bit different, and it's a lot more techni- cal than most of the things I race so it's a little bit harder." 874 CODY WEBB 3RD CLUB TEAM/4TH C3 "It had a lot of ups and downs," Cody Webb said. "It started out with a huge downer and just went up from there. I have a huge smile on my face now. It was a great finish to the week; I really enjoyed myself and am glad I came. Day one if you asked me if I'd do it again, I would've said, 'Hell no!' I hated it; it was just silt beds all day and passing rider after rider, multiple riders in tests. I wasn't feeling it, wasn't enjoying myself. Things got better; with some of the rain, the transfers were actu- ally a blast ripping them. It was a great experience; I'm really glad I came and did it, especially since I did the Trial des Nations so many times—I really wanted to do this on the enduro side of things. The amount of people that come here and support the event, I just want to thank all the families and staff who helped out because I never expected how much went into that. I don't know if I'll be back, but I had a great experience."
