line worked, along with the more

"Everybody else was going in
really, really wide and I was bet-
ter going in low and then coming
last four or five years. He nipped
me at the line, so many times,"
said Mees. "It just felt good to
get it done. You don't have to
be the fastest guy here, you just
have to beat everybody to the
line on the twenty fifth lap."
While the finish was typical of
the lead repeatedly the last few
laps with Baker and Halbert also
in the mix.
When they crossed the fin-
ish line Mess held a 0.021 of a
second advantage over Smith.
"It was good to beat Smith. He's
beat me so much here for the

Smith (1), Brad Baker
(6) and Sammy
Halbert (69) led the
all-star front row.
