P124 50 Years Ago September 14, 1967 Close racing action from the San Jose 7-Mile National Championship was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. George Roader (94) put the move on Dan Haaby through the final turn to take the win after Haaby had led from the start… Haaby, however, came away with a victory at the Ascot National; it was his fifth win of the year… We had coverage of the Bonneville Speed Week. The fastest bike under 55 cubic inches was a Suzuki that went 128 mph. 40 Years Ago September 7, 1977 Photos from the Indy Mile and the 500cc National Motocross from St. Pete, Florida, were featured on the cover 40 years ago. Ted Boody and Jay Springsteen split wins at the doubleheader, while Tommy Croft won the motocross, but it was not enough to keep Marty Smith from wrapping up the title… Jack Johnson, Jeff Jennings and David Taylor were the big winners at the SCORE Off-Road World Championship at Riverside Raceway in California… Sue Fish won the Women's National MX in California. 20 Years Ago September 3, 1997 Cycle News grabbed the top touring bikes in the world and took them for a ride to find out which one was best. Jeff Emig and Ricky Carmichael were also pictured on the cover for wrapping up the 250 and 125cc AMA Motocross National titles at Binghamton, New York… Will Davis took the win at the Hagerstown Half Mile… Tony Lang won the Top Fuel class at the AMA/Prostar Drag Racing Series at Indianapolis Park… We wrote about our experiences at the Rocky Mountain 300 trail ride.
