building and building, and I had a little bit of a
rough patch in the middle of the year, then the
last few races have come around for me."
In the second moto, Nichols duked it out
with Martin for the whole moto. He actually
passed Martin for third around halfway, but
Martin went to school on Nichols' lines and
then zapped him back on the final lap to steal
third place back from the Yamaha pilot. Still,
the 3-4 score gave Nichols his first-ever po-
dium overall finish outdoors, and he was sad
to see the series end.
"It's actually really a bummer that we have to
stop and we're all done racing for the season,"
Nichols said. "I was actually starting to find my
stride in these last few rounds, but the team
just kept working and working and working.
We needed to improve on the bike, and they
just kept getting after it. That's what I contribute
all of this to. Last weekend was great, and this
weekend was even better. I'm pumped." CN

heart's a little heavy for Chase
[Sexton]; two laps to go and he
ran into a lapper and crashed. He
was riding really awesome. He's a
good friend of mine, too, but man,
