CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "I think we also saw the fastest man on the planet, Jeffrey Herlings, absolutely dominate the AMA pros." Indiana National MX Final Congratulations Eli Tomac! His ego got the best of him in the first moto, but he played it smart in the second moto for the championship and probably a huge bonus. I think we also saw the fast- est man on the planet, Jeffrey Herlings, absolutely dominate the AMA pros. Herlings started the MXGP season with broken bones in one hand and out of shape, but he's been coming on like a freight train lately in that series. It's too late for him to win that championship as a 450 rookie, but he will be the favorite next season if he comes in healthy. Terry Heath I used to be a Tomac fan until he showed how he behaves under pressure in the final Supercross race (Las Vegas 2017). He took several dirty shots at Ryan Dungey in a desperate attempt to make him crash. I have no respect for this kind of riding! The KTM team showed a lot of class not retuning the favor (in Indiana). I have to admit I kind of hoped that Herlings would have cleaned Tomac's clock with a hard pass. But, like I said, the KTM guys showed the class that Tomac seems to have lacked. Bottom line, Eli won and con- gratulations to him. Scott Kennedy A dude (Jeffrey Herlings) from overseas who had never ridden this track before, let alone race in America, came over and schooled our boys. Huh? Chris Norton Empire of Dirt: My Friend Trey I have never written to a maga- zine editor before, however, I felt compelled after read- ing Steve Cox piece on Trey Canard. (Emipre of Dirt.) Trey was, as Steve describes, a real friend, although he was more than friend to many of us. Although I have never met Trey I feel a kindred spirit and a mentor to many of us. Trey is a one-in-a-generation-type rider and person. In addition, the article was so timely with all the violence and hate in the world. Thanks for bringing more than race coverage to us each week. Dominic Petit What an honest, refreshing look at a number of subjects many people haven't the insight, information or guts to speak about. I've been a fan of Trey Canard for years, initially because of his riding style, but later when I followed him on Facebook and found he loves Christ, just as I do. I find most moto-boys do too. I think it has something to do with being in touch with the concept of faith. When you have faith in Christ, you learn how to have faith in yourself. This is needed to win. Zach, Ryan (Dungey), the Mar- tin brothers, Trey, the list goes on. I hear their podium words. Anthony LaGrasta Looking Back: Andy Tresser I've just finished reading the latest issue of Cycle News magazine. As always it was incredible, especially the piece on Bolivia. When I got to the back of the issue and read Looking Back, 1997, there came a memory that is a tough one for me. Andy Tresser had been a young boy that hung around the mo- torcycle shop I worked at. He was a fine young man interest- ed in everything that went on in a shop. I remember him telling me that his dad had been a rac- er at one time. He could hardly wait until the day he was riding, and he was determined to be a racer like his dad. It was a shock to read about him losing his life; in fact, I just couldn't believe it for the longest time. Brought tears to my eyes, still does. Young Andy you will always be remembered.
