AUSTRALIA NATIONAL MX SERIES WRAPS UP
T
he final round of the 2017
Motul Australian MX Nation-
als wrapped up at the Coolum
Pines MX Track, August 20,
where CDR Yamaha's Dean Fer-
ris came away with the overall
win with a perfect 1-1 perfor-
mance. It was a fitting way for
the season to end for Ferris who
had already clinched the MX1
title a week earlier. Ferris won
nine of the 10 rounds over the
course of the championship,
successfully defending his
2016 title.
KTM rider Kirk Gibbs, third on
the day, finished out the season
second overall for the second
consecutive year.
Todd Waters (Crankt Pro-
tein Honda Racing Team) was
second overall at Coolum and
ended up third in the champion-
ship, finishing 10 points behind
Yamaha rider Kade Mosig (fifth in
Coolum).
American Kyle Peters (Suzuki)
finished out the season sixth,
while Kawasaki rider Brett Met-
calfe ended up seventh.
Peters' time in Australia has
prematurely run out. Peters was
originally planning to remain in
Australia to compete in the coun-
try's supercross championship,
which starts September 23, with
his current Wilson Coolair Motul
Factory Suzuki team, but he and
the team have decided to part
ways. Peters is returning to the
States.
Things were much closer in
MX2, where KTM rider Egan
Mastin claimed the title after a
deciding final-moto showdown
with Yamaha rider Wilson Todd.
Mastin edged out Todd for the
win on the day, taking the title by
five points over Todd.
Yamaha rider Mitchell Evans fin-
ished out the season in third. CN

his second Australian
National MX
Championship.
