GAJSER, SEEWER
SEW UP GP WINS IN
SWEDEN
T
he Uddevalla circuit in Sweden hosted
the 16th round of the 2017 FIM Motocross
World Championship, August 20, and finding
success was Team HRC Tim Gajser and Team
Suzuki World MX2's Jeremy Seewer.
In MXGP, Gajser took the first-moto win
ahead of Red Bull KTM's Jeffrey Herlings by
nine seconds, with Husqvarna's Gautier Paulin
taking third.
Points leader Antonio Cairoli struggled with
a bad start and crashes and the Red Bull KTM
rider was forced to settle for ninth.
In race two, Yamaha's Romain Febvre nabbed
his first moto win since June of 2016, which also
landed him on the podium at the end of the day
for the first time this season. His second-moto
win combined with his first-moto sixth netted him
second overall.
Gajser was second in the moto, which was
more than enough to claim the overall victory for
the day.
Third overall went to Paulin who was again third
in the second moto.
Herlings was running near the front when his
chain came off, ending his day prematurely. His
teammate, Cairoli, was seventh in the moto.
Cairoli, however, still enjoys a commanding
101-point lead in the championship over Herlings.
Gautier is third, only four points behind Herlings.
In MX2, Seewer took the overall victory despite
not winning a moto, but his 2-2 got it done for the
Suzuki rider.
KTM's Jorge Prado won the first moto, while
American Thomas Covington won the second
moto with a last-second pass on Seewer.
Prado (1-4) was second overall and champion-
ship leader; KTM's Pauls Jonass (3-3) was third.
Covington went 16-1 for fifth overall.
Jonass heads the MX2 championship with 669
points, followed by Seewer with 624 and Benoit Pa-
turel with 504. Covington is sixth with 417 points. CN
