Unfortunately for Johnson, his Harley-Davidson XG750R coasted to a stop on lap three. Davis Fisher (Bob Lanphere Beaverton Motorcycles Kawasa- ki) filled the void left by Johnson, but he was soon under attack from Smith's Indian teammate Brad Baker, who was recovering from problems in his qualifying race that had left him with a back row start. Current AFT Twins points leader Jared Mees (Indian Mo- torcycle/Rogers Racing Indian Scout FTR750) was second, but already losing ground. Mees had his hands full as Sturgis TT win- ner Briar Bauman (Zanotti Rac- ing/Rod Lake Racing Kawasaki) was close behind. Defending Grand National Champion Bryan Smith (Indian Motorcycle/Allstate Insurance Indian Scout FTR750) was in fourth in a battle with Harley-Da- Wiles' 13th win ties him with the "Prince of Peoria" Chris Carr for Peoria GNC wins and his legions of fans have justifi- ably proclaimed him to be "King Henry." As the day wore on it became obvious that Wiles and his Willy Built/Mad Dog Racing/DPC Racing-backed, DTX-looking Kawasaki were the team to beat. When Wiles led the 52-lap main over the jump on the first lap it became a race for second. Wiles prepares to take his 13th straight victory at the Peoria TT.
