GEORKE WINS CANADIAN NATIONAL MX CHAMPIONSHIP A huge crowd was on hand Sunday, August 13, at RJ Motosport Park in Barrie, Ontar- io, Canada, as it hosted the last round of the CMRC-sanctioned 2017 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, presented by Motovan. Champions were decided in both the MX1 and MX2 classes, as both series went down to the last moto. It was a great day for Yamaha as it won both classes this year like KTM did last year. In the MX1 class, Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha's Matt Goerke captured his third national title. He did what he had to do in moto two after having problems in the first moto. He entered the final moto of the season only eight points ahead of Rockstar Husqvarna's Christophe Pourcel in the cham- pionship. In the MX2 class, MX101 FXR Yamaha Team's Shawn Maffen- beier picked up his sixth win of the season en route to his first national title after coming into the final round leading Nut Up Industries Kawasaki's Ryan Sur- ratt by 11 points, and going into the second moto with a 20-point cushion. It was a dramatic way to end the 450MX Championship with points leader Georke crashing and stalling his bike on the third lap and dropping to 25th, while his main rival Pourcel ran up front. Georke managed to work his way into sixth, while Pourcel finished second to Colton Fac- ciotti, narrowing the points gap to just eight with one moto left. IN THE WIND P54 Matt Georke won the 2017 MX1 Canadian National Motocross Championship at a dramatic final round.
