IN THE WIND P44 HERLINGS, PATUREL TOP SWISS MXGP J effrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) and Benoit Paturel (Kemea Yamaha) claimed the overall wins at round 15 of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Frauen- feld – Gachnang, Switzerland, August 13. Herlings collected his third MXGP win of the season and for Paturel, it was his first career GP victory in MX2. Herlings came into Switzer- land fresh off his win a week earlier in the sand of Lommel (Belgium) and was hoping to do it again on the much harder ground of Frauenfeld – Gach- nang. It didn't look good at first for Herlings after getting off to a midpack start, but the former MX2 champ quickly sliced his way through the field to finish in sixth, behind Switzerland's own Arnaud Tonus, Max Anstie, points leader Antonio Cairoli, Gautier Paulin and Romain Fe- bvre. Rolls were reversed for Herlings and Tonus, this time Herlings got the good start and Tonus a bad one. Later on, Tonus fell and was struck by another rider and was unable to continue, retiring to the pits. Herlings, meanwhile, rode off with the win ahead of Pau- lin, Febvre, Cairoli and Tim Gajser. Herlings and Paulin tied on points but Herlings was awarded the overall victory via his second-moto finish. Cairoli was third overall, but still holds a commanding lead in the champi- onship, 605-508. Paulin is third with 486. Suzuki's Jeremy Seewer gave the home crowd a first-moto win in MX2, but a first-turn crash prevented him from having any real chance at the overall, though he did give it his all and climbed up to fifth to get him on the podium in second. Paturel ran down American Thomas Covington to win moto two and easily clinch the overall, the first of his career. "I have been waiting a long time for this win and today it was my day," Paturel said. Points leader Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM) was third overall, losing a couple of points to running-up in the series, See- wer. But Jonass still has a com- manding lead, 629-580, over Seewer. Covington finished out the day fourth overall with a 7-2. CN MXGP 1. Jeffrey Herlings (KTM) 2. Gautier Paulin (Hus) 3. Antonio Cairoli (KTM) 4. Romain Febvre (Yam) 5. Max Anstie (Hus) MX2: 1.
