IN THE WIND P40 P olish racer Bartosz Zmarzlik was elated to end his wait for an away win after continuing his surge up the standings with a great win at the Teng Tools Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix, August 12. Zmarzlik produced a breathtaking charge to snatch victory from Swedish hero Antonio Lindback on the final turn, with Dackarna rider Freddie Lindgren finishing third on his Elitserien home track. Maciej Janowski claimed fourth place to move five points clear of Jason Doyle at the World Championship summit. But it was Zmarzlik who celebrated victory, his first since becoming the youngest ever SGP win- ner at the 2014 Gorzow SGP. The 22-year-old is no stranger to that track, having raced his entire career at the Edward Jancarz Stadium. So he was elated with a win on his travels, which puts him sixth in the standings at 70 points. "Winning the GP in Gorzow was a very special day for me," said Zmarzlik. "This is my second win, and I have won away. That's something new and I am very happy." Zmarzlik showed sensational speed in the semis and final, getting the better of Lindback and Lindgren in jaw-dropping style in one of the all-time classic FIM Speedway Grand Prix finals. The Vetlanda rider admits he had no choice but to take the daredevil line around the fence. "The only line for me was the outside," Zmarzlik said. "Freddie and Antonio stayed on the inside and I didn't have the drive because they were very fast there. I went to the outside and my bike was very fast there. I was thinking 'come on, come on' and I got the win just before the line." Current world champion Greg Hancock missed only his second GP since 1995, suffering from a shoulder injury, which could threaten his season. John Hipkiss ZMARZLIK WINS SWEDISH SPEEDWAY GP 1.
