INDIAN'S "SPIRIT OF MUNRO"
GUNNING FOR 200 MPH
I
ndian Motorcycle is currently
searching for an elusive 200
mph pass at the Bonneville Salt
Flats during the annual SCTA
Speed Week with Burt Munro's
great nephew Lee Munro at the
controls.
In a project inspired by the
legendary Burt Munro's 1967
Streamlined 1000cc Gas Record
184.079 mph, as Cycle News
closed for press Lee Munro
had completed three passes at
Bonneville, only for his second
run not to count due to an issue
with the timing system at the salt.
Munro's fastest run was his
first, a 191.286 mph pass early
on Saturday morning (August 12),
dropping down to a 186.415 on
Sunday morning after a gearing
change didn't work out as the
team had planned.
For Spirit of Munro Team
Manager Gary Gray, who is also
the Indian Motorcycle Product
Manager, the quest to 200 mph
represents a milestone for the
reborn company.
"To be here at Bonneville
honoring Burt Munro is a mo-
mentous occasion for Indian,"
he said. "I firmly believe that,
had it not been for Burt and the
subsequent movie World's Fast-
est Indian, there are many that
would have never heard of the
Indian brand. Burt represents
the epitome of getting off your
ass and getting the job done,
something we at Indian are all
very proud of."
As Cycle News closed for
press, Munro and the Indian
team still had two days to reach
the 200 mph goal, and we will
update you as it happens. We
