ROAD RACE MOTOAMERICA AMA FIM NORTH AMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7/ AUGUST 12-13, 2017 SONOMA RACEWAY / SONOMA, CALIFORNIA P114 tougher than yesterday," Beau- bier said. "Yesterday when Josh [Herrin] and Roger went down I think that made the race. It made the race a little easier midway. When I went to settle down I had about a 4.3-second gap and I started calming down a little bit to not make any big mistakes. I didn't want to go throw it down the road and then Toni shrunk the gap, so I just kept my head down, kept pushing the whole way and tried to keep that gap the same. We were able to hold on." "I'm just really happy with how the whole weekend went," Beaubier added. "We made a few changes here and there to get a bit more comfortable, but I Lewis enjoyed his best race of the season but struggled with lapped traffic, which allowed Elias and Hayes to get around him. Still, he was happy with fourth and the Bazzaz Super- stock 1000-class win. "That was the plan after about halfway through the race [to get on the Superbike podi- um]," Lewis said. "I got a good start because of my qualifying. I saw Roger [Hayden] and Josh [Herrin] crash at the beginning and I was kind of stuck behind Matthew [Scholtz] and saw Bobby [Fong] getting away so I knew I had to go because for me and Bobby we both have to win for the championship. Once I caught up to him he crashed in the carousel so I just decided to keep pushing. Josh [Hayes] passed me late in the race but at that point I decided to play it safe and win the Su- perstock race, not pitch it down the road." Fifth in the race went to Superstock 1000 points leader Mathew Scholtz (Yamalube Westby Racing Yamaha), while sixth went to Sylvain Barrier (Brixx Performance BMW). SUNDAY Beaubier again dominated on Sunday, taking the checkered flag 7.2 seconds ahead of Elias. "Today's race was quite a bit Garrett Gerloff (1) pulled away from JD Beach in both Supersport races.
