IN THE WIND P44 FACCIOTTI TOPS CANADIAN NATIONAL MX IN DESCHAMBAULT C anada's own Colton Facciotti dominated the pen- ultimate round of the 2017 CMRC Rockstar Energy Drink Moto- cross Nationals at Deschambault, near Quebec City, Canada, August 6. Facciotti, on the Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing CRF450R, domi- nated the MX1 class, winning both motos, and leading every lap. The Canadian just couldn't put a knobby wrong all day and his flawless ride was rewarded with sole position of third place in the series championship with one round left to go. He trails Matt Goerke (Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha) and Christophe Pourcel (Rockstar Husqvarna) in the championship but still has a mathematical shot at the number- one plate. The race for the MX1 Cham- pionship between Goerke and Pourcel heated up in more ways than one. Heading into the race, Georke held a 19-point lead over Pourcel—it's a little smaller now. Georke and Pourcel were bat- tling for second in the first moto when Georke fell and handed the position over to Pourcel, who went on to finish the race in second; Georke third. The two were at it again in the second moto, again fight over second place, when, on the last lap, Pourcel attacked Goerke, pushing him out of the main line and taking over second place, where he would finish. An un- happy Georke was third. Still, Georke still has a com- fortable 13-point lead going into the final round of the series. He's hoping to nab a third CMRC title. Facciotti is 34 points behind Pourcel, and Alessi is 19 behind Facciotti. Kyle Chisholm was the sec- ond-quickest qualifier going into the motos but he just couldn't get the starts he needed to fight for the win. He instead just missed getting on the podium with a 5-4. Mike Alessi, on the Alpinestars Kawasaki, was fifth overall with 6-5 moto finishes. In MX2, Ryan Sur- ratt (Nut Up Industries Kawasaki) won both motos and made significant ground on points leader Shawn Maffenbeier (MX101 FXR Yamaha Team), who went 3-DNF. He crashed out of the second moto. Maffenbeier saw his 46-point lead over second-place Surratt shrink to just 11 points with one round left. The final round of the series takes place at the RJ Motosport Park in Barrie, Ontario, August 13. CN MX1 1. Colton Facciotti (Hon) 1-1 2. Christophe Pourcel (Hus) 2-2 3. Matt Goerke (Yam) 3-3 4. Kyle Chisholm (Hon) 5-4 5. Mike Alessi (Kaw) 6-5 MX2 1. Ryan Surratt (Kaw) 1-1 2. Jason Benny (Kaw) 6-4 3. Jason Benny (Kaw) 6-4 4. Jeremy Pronovost (Yam) 5-6 5. Hayden Halstead (Yam) 7-7 Colton Facciotti won the latest round of the Rockstar Energy Canadian MX Nationals at Deschambault.
