Legend Lost
R
ussian motocross great Guennady
Moisseev passed away, Sunday, July
23, at the age of 69.
The former grand prix racer was a
three-time 250cc MX World Champion
(1974, '77-'78), but his first championship
will always be remembered for his controversial unsports-
manlike conduct on the track after kicking his only title contender, Czechoslovakian rider Jaroslav Falta's
front wheel, forcing him off the track at the last race of the championship. When he won the title, our
headline in Cycle News read: "The decider: Moisseev win on points; Falta on principle!"
However, Moisseev went on to win to more titles fair and square. In 1976, he lost the 250cc title to
Heikki Mikkola by just one point.
Moisseev was also a member of the winning Russian Motocross des Nations team in 1978.
He later was elected president of the Russian Motorcycle Federation. CN
Racers Crowned At FIM Junior MX
World Championship
I
taly's Gianluca Facchetti, Great
Britain's Eddie Wade and The Neth-
erlands' Ivano Van Erp were some of
the big winners at the 2017 FIM Junior
World Championship in Lange Mo-
tokeskus, Estonia, July 29-30.
All three riders won their classes by sweeping both
motos. Facchetti (Husqvarna) got his championship in
the 125cc Junior World class, Wade (Husqvarna) got
his in the 85cc Junior World class, and Van Erp
(KTM) got his in the 65cc Junior World class.
The best overall team went to Denmark with
10 points, barely besting team Netherland's
13-point score, while Italy was the team taking
the third spot.
The United States did not send riders to this
year's race, since it conflicted with the AMA
Amateur MX Championships at Loretta Lynn's.
