in motocross. A race earlier, in
the sand of Southwick, Massa-
chusetts, Wilson snared his first-
ever podium finish in the 450MX
class, despite not liking the
sand. Throughout the 2017 MX
Nationals, Wilson's M.O. was to
come from a so-so start to end
up somewhere in the ballpark
of the top five by the end of the
moto. After grabbing a podium
at Southwick, all of a sudden
Wilson started getting starts
at Millville, proving the adage:
The biggest key to getting good
starts in motocross is the belief
that you belong up front.
lead on lap three in the famous
Millville Sand Whoops. Once out
front, he took off again, eventu-
ally winning by over 15 seconds
over Blake Baggett.
"We actually set up the bike
the right way today, I guess,
because I was having a lot of
fun," Musquin said. "That track
was very, very challenging, and
that's what I like; it's technical,
it's rough, and yeah, I got scared
when I passed Justin Bogle
there (referring to a near crash).
I don't know what happened."
Dean Wilson proved how con-
fidence can change everything
the other guys, too. I expected
Tomac maybe to gain a little bit
of ground on me, but I was able
to push whenever I needed it,
and we have a second moto to
go. If I get a good start, it'll be a
good battle."
In moto two, Musquin didn't
get the holeshot, but he was up
near the front, and the guy he
knew he was going to have to
worry about more than anybody
else, Tomac, went down right in
front of him on the opening lap.
From there, he wasn't in a rush,
and he calmly passed his way
up through the field to take the
Dean Wilson finished
out the day on the
450MX podium after
going 3-3.
