FLAT TRACK
X GAMES HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLAT TRACK
JULY 13, 2017
MALL OF AMERICA / MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA
P46
"I had a flat tire and just missed out on
third. It did it all at once going into corner
three going to the white flag," said Carver.
"I thought 'What theā¦is that?' I looked
down and saw the tire all flat and wiggling.
I thought, 'no!' It wouldn't turn, it went
straight. On the last corner, I was trying to
get in on the inside, but still go fast enough
that Brad [Baker] wasn't catching me as
quick. Oh well, it's all good."
"I feel so bad for Jeffrey Carver because
he rode so well," said Mees. "He was the
second-place guy and I was third. That's
racing, you know. I broke on the last lap
leading this thing, so I know how painful it
is.
"The times showed late in the practice
yesterday that Sammy was going to be the
biggest player. All day today he was on it.
We just scrambled and tried to fight for
everything I could get. I was the third-place
guy tonight."
(Above) Jeffrey Carver
Jr. had all but locked
up the bronze medal
but suffered a flat tire
on the last lap. He
limped home in fourth.
(Below) Mees got out
in front right off the
start but he couldn't
hold off Halbert, who
had the track dialed
all night.
Brad Baker (Indian Motor-
cycle/Allstate Insurance Indian
Scout FTR750) was the bene-
factor of Carver's misfortune as
he matched his 2016 bronze
finish.
