VOL. 54 ISSUE 27 JULY 11, 2017 P99
After five-straight podiums from rounds two
through six, Jason Anderson vacated his
third position in the championship when he
was unable to race at Southwick following a
practice crash he had during the week. He
tried to ride practice but threw in the towel.
"I had a big crash on Thursday, and luckily
it's not worse than what it is with how bad the
crash was. But I'm out for the day," Anderson
said. "We'll be back at Millville." He said his
lower back and kidney area are beat up, and
riding on a sand track like Southwick—with
all the sitting over bumps that it requires—just
wasn't in the cards for him. He now trails by
75 points.
Red Bull KTM's Trey Canard did not race.
He crashed while practicing earlier in the
week and hit his head, which meant he had to
miss Southwick due to the AMA's concussion
protocol. He has no other injuries and plans
to back on the line for Millville on July 22.
Star Yamaha's Aaron Plessinger went down
in the first moto at Southwick while challeng-
ing Alex Martin for the lead and hit his head.
That ended his day but he should be back
for Millville, July 22. Early word is that the
same can be said for Pro Circuit Kawasaki's
Justin Hill and Austin Forkner, who both
sat out the second moto at Southwick after
big crashes in the first one.
The Junkyard Pup, Ryan Dowd, made his
first AMA Pro points at Southwick. The son
of legendary John Dowd, Ryan qualified
seventh in the 450MX class out of the B
practice, then went out and put in two solid
rides in the motos to go 18-16 for 18th overall
and collect eight AMA Pro points. His dad,
John, was a late MX bloomer, too. Local
hero Robby Marshall showed up to South-
wick on a KTM 250 SX two-stroke, and he
qualified for the 450MX class as well, but he
didn't do quite as well as Dowd, going 23-25
for 25th overall.
