MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 7 / JULY 8, 2017 THE WICK 338 / SOUTHWICK, MASSACHUSETTS P90 came into an inside berm way too shallow, taking Musquin's front wheel out and causing him to crash, taking RCH Suzuki's Justin Bogle and Yamaha priva- teer Henry Miller down with him. Musquin had some luck go his way in that moto when both the AutoTrader/JGR/Toyota Suzu- kis of Weston Peick and Justin Barcia quit on them. Peick's bike seemed to seize up around halfway, but Barcia was having a tremendous moto when, while running fourth on the last lap, his bike quit running as he led motos to go, but I've had some tough struggles recently. We were on a roll, and we've just been struggling, so I've just got to dig deep. The thumb is re- ally sore, and I'm going to get it checked out this week." But the points battle is basi- cally down to just Tomac and Baggett at this juncture, since Anderson sat this one out, and Musquin crashed himself out. Musquin was taken down in a crash on the opening lap in the first moto when Honda privateer Freddy Noren got squirrelly and "I love the sand," Tomac said. "I wish we had a few more [sand races] on the outdoor schedule here. Coming to Southwick is a great day for the whole Mon- ster Energy Kawasaki team. I just love flowing through the berms and jumping over the holes and stuff. It's just a lot of fun here." Tomac's firmly in the driver's seat now as the series heads to Millville, Minnesota's Spring Creek Raceway, July 22. Still, Baggett's day had to be considered a success, as well. Baggett led early in the first moto before giv- ing way to Tomac with his injured thumb, and in moto two, he was running third until Musquin tossed himself off the track. Baggett hung on for a solid 2-2 score to minimize the points damage at a race Tomac was "sup- posed to win" anyway, despite the injury. "I mean, it's sore, for sure, so I'm just going to try to bite my way through it and fight it out," Baggett said after moto one. "It's part of racing. Motocross is a gnarly sport, and you've got to race through everything. I'm just trying to do the best I can to make stuff happen." After only losing six points on the day to Tomac, Baggett seemed cautiously optimistic. "It was just damage control," Baggett said. "There are a lot of Musquin and Baggett were left to fight for the scraps once Tomac got out in front.
