"I kept closing a lot going into
to steal the pole by a massive
1.069 seconds from Beach. To
put that in perspective, Jonathan
Rea's fastest lap from race two in
the World Superbike Champion-
ship, held two hours later, was a
1:23.275, the display from Gerloff
showing just how in tune he is
with the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6.
"To get that time in qualifying,
I was pretty stoked! I was hoping
for that time but I didn't think
I'd get it. The bike just handled
beautifully, and I came in and
told the guys there really wasn't
anything to improve. I've never
had a bike that felt more com-
plete as I did that lap."
Beach tried all he could to
stop Gerloff from recording his
first win at a track Beach has
