VOL. 54 ISSUE 27 JULY 11, 2017 P97 My Own Race: 6 JEREMY MARTIN 5TH 250MX (4-6) Geico Honda's Jeremy Martin struggled with bad starts at Southwick, and that pretty much ruined his day, especially after the rain made vision impos- sible in moto two. "Tough day at Southwick in the sand going 4-6 for fifth overall," he said. "I struggled all day with the track and my starts didn't make anything any easier on me." His shot at the title is getting narrower by the day, as he still sits third in points but now trails by 59 points. 31 RJ HAMPSHIRE 4TH 250MX (5-4) Since he returned to racing at High Point, Geico Honda's RJ Hampshire has been putting himself near the front pretty consistently, although he has ended up with a few mechanical problems that have cost him. At Southwick, the Floridian was making waves in moto one when he passed his way up into the lead, but then fell. "It was good," Hampshire said. "I haven't been up front like that since I hit my head over a year ago. I felt awesome but then I made a mistake and threw it away through the rollers. I got up, and I felt good again! I was putting in laps and laps and then my rear brakes went out—I mean, that's still not an excuse—but they went out halfway." He struggled with vision in the rain in moto two, but still managed a solid fourth overall. 36 ADAM CIANCIARULO 10TH 250MX (15-9) Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo was the fastest 250MX qualifier at Southwick, and the Floridian was looking forward to the racing, but a bad start, followed by two crashes on the opening lap of moto one, pretty much ruined his day. "Today was tough," Cianciarulo said. "My speed and fitness is there, I just need to minimize the small mistakes. I know what I have to do and know I can do it. We'll go into the break hungry and eager to improve." 14 COLE SEELY 6TH 450MX (5-5) It's not often that a 5-5 will give someone sixth overall, but that's the luck Honda's Cole Seely has been having lately. He qualified ninth, started ninth in both motos, and ended up with a 5-5 on the day. "It felt good to get two decent starts especially with all the first-turn crashes that we had today," Seely said. "The track was tough as it always is, but I knew if I just rode smart it could be a good day. We made up a lot of points today and we're hoping to have a good weekend off to keep getting stronger." Seely is now 10th in points. 19 JUSTIN BOGLE 10TH 450MX (9-13) RCH Suzuki's lone remaining racer Justin Bogle had a tough day in the sand. In the first moto, Bogle was near the front when he got collected in a pileup a few turns into the race. In moto two, it went even worse when he was knocked down in the first turn and had to come from nearly last, yet again. "This weekend wasn't that great but all things considered, it ended up being okay," Bogle said. "Fortunately, we managed to finish 10th overall. I had a first-lap crash in the first moto and a first-turn crash in the second. The second moto was miserable—first-turn crash and then I crashed again after I passed a few people. I had to pass everyone again after I'd already passed them once and then about 20 minutes into the moto my back brake went out. I was definitely glad when the checkered flag waved and the race was over with." Bogle sits sixth in points, 15 points outside the top five.
