ALESSI WINS IN CANADA
M
ike Alessi, riding for the
Monster Energy Kawasaki
Team, captured his first win of
the 2017 CMRC Rockstar Energy
Drink Motocross National at Go-
pher Dunes Raceway in Court-
land, Ontario, Canada, July 9.
Except for a couple of small
mistakes, Alessi was dominant
on the day. He was quickest in
qualifying and jumped out to an
early lead in the first MX1 moto.
Alessi set the pace and looked
to be headed to the moto win
before tucking the front end and
dropping to fourth. He charged
back up to second before
another mistake cost him one
more spot late in the race. Alessi
finished the moto in third behind
winner Colton Facciotti (Honda)
and points leader Matt Georke
(Yamaha).
Alessi returned with a ven-
geance in the second moto,
grabbing the lead on the second
lap and running off with the vic-
tory over Tyler Medaglia (Honda)
and Georke. The overall victory
ended Georke's four-race win
streak and moved Alessi up into
fourth in the championship.
Goerke (2-3) was second over-
all, followed by Medaglia (5-2).
Facciotti (1-8) was fourth overall,
while Husqvarna's Christophe
Pourcel (6-4) was fifth overall.
Georke leads the champion-
ship with 264 points, followed
by Pourcel with 255 and Fac-
ciotti with 233. Alessi is just four
points in back of Facciottie.
In MX2, Shawn Maffenbeier
(Yamaha) was the overall winner
with a 1-2, while Cole Thompson
(KTM) took second with a 3-1.
American Ryan Surratt was fifth
overall with a 5-6.
Thompson leads the MX2
championship with 279 points,
followed by Josh Osby and
Maffenbeier, both at 239
points. Surratt is fourth with 210
points.CN
