IN THE WIND P32 STARS COME OUT FOR OROFINO LOGGERXROSS N orthern Idaho proved not to be a reprieve from the heat over the weekend, as riders at the Orofino LoggerXross event found out. But despite temperatures of over 100 degrees, a stacked field of pros took to the manmade extreme course for a chance at the $5000 purse, with another $2500 for the women's class. EnduroCross' best turned out for the annual event, with Red Bull KTM's Cody Webb, Rock- star Energy Husqvarna's Colton Haaker and SRT Husqvarna's Kyle Redmond leading the field. It was Redmond who led the way for the first half of the final, but Webb took control of the race around the halfway point. Haaker also closed the gap on Redmond, and sneaked around him on the last lap to steal the runner-up spot. Redmond was left to collect third place. In the women's pro class, it was Tarah Gieger who claimed the big win, and the lion's share of the purse. Gieger duked it out with EnduroCross regular Shelby Turner from the gate drop to the checkered flag, with Gieger taking the upper hand. Beta USA rider Mor- gan Tanke rounded out the women's podium in third. CN COVINGTON RE-SIGNS WITH HUSQVARNA T homas Convington, the American who is currently sixth in the 2017 FIM World Motocross Championship in the MX2 divi- sion, has extended his contract with his current Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Team. He will remain on the squad through the 2018 season. Covington has one overall victory this year which came in Mexico. "I'm really excited to be staying with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 team and Jacky Martens [team manager] for another year," Covington said. "Things have been go- ing quite well for us and I believe there is a very strong connection with each member of our team. Together with my teammate Thomas Kjer-Olsen I think we will make a very strong team for the coming season. We've made some big improvements with the setup of the FC 250 recently and we will keep working on the small details. The results have started to show the hard work we're all putting in and the goal is to keep that momentum going. If we keep trying to remain consistent, I believe there will be more race victories coming our way in the near future." Covington's teammate, Thomas Kjer-Olsen, who is third in the title chase, has re-signed through the 2020 season. CN Thomas Covington will stay with Husqvarna through 2018.
